There is a butterfly sanctuary in Mindo led by biologists where we had even the opportunity to watch the birth of a butterfly. It takes approximately two minutes. After that, the butterfly has to dry for half an hour and is able to fly away afterwards. Did you know that some butterflies have shiny golden cocoons?
