Hiking Volcano Sierra Negra Galapagos

Isabela, Galapagos: Hiking Around Sierra Negra Volcano

It’s a humble experience to be in an area where you can see and smell that life on earth is futile. We hiked 16 kms to see the huge caldera of Sierra Negra Volcano and the bizarre volcanic landscape of Chico Vulcano.
Sierra Negra erupted for the last time in 2005 and created an immens, 10 kms diameter, black caldera and is still considered active.
Some steps ahead, near to Chico Vulcano, you have a view over the vastness of the island, no-mans-land for more than one hundred kilometers.

I felt like being in the middle of earths’ geological history.
