Hiking the Azores: Big Silence At Lagoa do Fogo

Unfortunately you can’t make a complete tour around Lagoa do Fogo. We tried to go back another way that we found on our map, but after the first 200 meters it became more and more unpassable so we turned around and walked back the same way we came from. The biggest obstacle are the steep stairs from the parking lot to the lake. A decent of about 120m on 250m which caused quite a pretty muscle soreness in my thighs.

Down at the lake there is a wonderfully calm and serene atmosphere above all at the most eastern point, where only a small amount of people go. As we read in the guide book, in the middle of the trail you can obviously find flocks of nasty seagulls – but not end of October.
