Stormy coast
Through the mountains
Pico, the island, has the same name as its mountain. With 2531m, Pico Mountain is the highest mountain in Portugal and one of the biggest European volcanoes. The last eruption has been in 1720. One of the former eruptions created another tiny mountain inside of the caldera (I’m quite sure that geologists would chose different words for this outcome :-), which gives Pico its characteristic appearance. It looks like the mountain would wear a too small party hat. Despite this funny exterior, Pico has a diginfied and wise aura.Â

Cold temperatures and fog led to this change of natures looks. The morning I looked out of the window and everything was  wrapped in white sparkles.
Bödigheim Castle With the first parts build in 1286 and a moving history, the Castle of Bödigheim today is mostly used as residential quarters for normal people. I envy them for the huge gardens. The title is inspired by the title of a painting by Caspar David Friedrich called “Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer”
If you are surprised by the photographic effects I used: The technique is called “wet lense” 🙂
We started after a really big breakfast from the charming Gasthof zur Mühle in Schmilka near the Czech border. It started raining as soon as we took of and the forest was soon filled with fog.
