A short hike through the forest with one of my oldest childhood friends who lives very far away from me.

Fort Augustus is interesting for the Caledonian Canal Staircase Locks. Otherwise it is very overcrowded with tourists. But we had a wonderful day with a little bit of fog and with great lights which enlightened the flat landscape around the canal very beautifully.
I’m so sad looking at those pictures. On the second and fifth you can see the huge trees on the neighbours estate. Well, they are all cut down now. 20 huge pine trees. Gone. On the other hand:
I really like the new neighbors. I’m just sad, that they don’t like trees.
We now had rain for many days and also a lot of time in the evenings because it wasn’t possible to meet friends and family because of Covid. So we thought it is time to bring the forest inside our living room and create some mythical forest creatures, elves, leprechauns and angels.
We had a nice hike through the hilly forests near Bad Freienwalde. Don’t miss to have a snack at the “Waldschenke” next to lake Baasee and admire their great decorative items from different centuries. Nearby you can look up to the highest tree in Brandenburg. This trail was clearly one of our hiking highlights on the Azores. It follows an old water channel (Levada) through dense jungle-like forests and grasslands. As there was a hurricane just some weeks earlier, we had to climb over fallen trees a lot and there was even a bridge which was hit by a tree. On time we had to pass trough a tunnel.
As we have parked our car at the beginning of the trail we had to take a taxi to bring us back to our initial point. I guess it would have been much more exhausting if we hadn’t found one because the climb to the start was rather steep.
We hiked along Dammwiesen, Annatal and Herrensee and had ice cream near Strausberg Main Station at “Kaffeepause”. Try Snow Ice and don’t be afraid of the huge portions :-).
So much to see and to explore in one hike! We started in beautiful Jetrichovice and were soon completely immersed again in this awesome Bohemian landscape. And there was not only one interesting site to visit but many on this great, very recommendable trail.
