Pavlov takes one or two kilos weekly and he really starts to enjoy the outdoors in the last days. We have a lot of fun teaching him how to get treats (easily, with those eyes!).

The Jewish Cemetary of Berlin-Weißensee is the biggest still existing Jewish Cemetery in Europe with around 42 hectare (1000m x 500 m) and 116.000 graves. Unlike a lot of other cemeteries in Germany I have visited, it is still active. Since the 70s it is listed as a historic monument.

It’s a very calming, beautiful and meaningful walk in the center of Berlin.
We took a hike around Maxsee in Hoppegarten and as always during this time of the year, the sun went down early and we reached home when it was already dark. I love this special atmosphere and light in the forest when you think nature is sleeping because of the low temperatures, but you become aware that this is not true.
While the temperature is already down to 0°C some leaves still stick to their trees and the colors of autumn will soon fade to grey.
We made a hike through the fields and forests near Dahmsdorf in the South of Waldsieversdorf. How long will those colors last? And when will grey take over? When I look at our garden, a lot of trees have already lost their leaves completely.
Autumn and sun. Don’t we have so much luck with the weather this time? Every weekend at least one beautiful day where you can see the sun shining through the leaves into the lake.
Already when I got off the highway and saw the vast horizon over greenish fields and the sun shining through a nearby forest, I thought of the colour palette of the day, which is normally quite uniform. Meaning: As long as the weather and the light stays the same during a hike, the palette is […]
If you look at the map you might wonder why I took the forest highways instead of the single trail paths. Starting my hike on a summerly overgrown path on the shore of Möllensee I soon got attacked by thousands of spiders hanging between the trees waiting on prey. And guess what: I hate spiders. I than grabbed a stick and used it like a windscreen wiper in front of me to not walk into a spiderweb again. What shall I say. It didn’t work out so well. I already had blisters on my wiping hand when I decided to leave the single track to the bicycle trail. Perish of insects? My ass. I was covered from top to toe in a thick sweaty layer of Anti-Brumm (containing 30% deet) except on the spots where my shorts and shirt was. The little bastards bit me through the denim material of the shorts.
After the little hamlet of Kagel I crossed the forest on a dirt road and saw millions of butterflies on the sides. That reconciled me again with the insect world. Because guess what: I love butterflies.
The magic world of mushrooms:

Today we just had a little lazy walk through Wedding and Mitte. I wore my linen slippers despite heavy cloudiness, because I wanted to, and of course it started raining and I had wet feet again. We had a little meal in a turkish restaurant on Badstrasse, we met some friends who had a stand on the flee market at Mauerpark and we went to the flee market on Arkona Platz to order a stand for November (!).
Sitting behind the stand at Mauerpark for a while and chatting with my friend Eddi – who is going to do “Interail for Seniors” through some eastern bloc countries – I looked up to some potential clients and saw a familiar face in front of me but this was so unlikely that I didn’t believe it at first. Standing there was Amy and her husband Jean-Paul from Luxemburg which I met on the Camino de Santiago in 2015. She is here for Fashion Week. // OMG. Fashion Week again. That is why there are so many strangely dressed people in town! // Next time when you’re in town I’ll have more time for you guys. Promised!
Look at those plants! Berlin is so green. The little park without a name behind my house is a complete wilderness now. There a millions of flowers, trees and berries growing this time of the year. I wonder if I should harvest some blackberries soon?
